UGC NET 2024 Results Announced: Detailed Subject Cut-offs and Eligibility Criteria

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially declared the results for the UGC NET December 2024 cycle, bringing relief to thousands of candidates who took the exam. With the exam spanning from January 3 to January 27, 2025, across 85 subjects, the results are now accessible, and they come alongside comprehensive details on subject-wise cut-offs.
This year's UGC NET 2024 was conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, a method that ensures standardized testing and quicker result processing. To check their scores, candidates can visit the NTA’s official website at ugcnet.nta.ac.in. Alternatively, they can use the DigiLocker and UMANG apps for a digital approach to access their results. The process involves a few steps where candidates need to input their application number, date of birth, and a security PIN before they can download their scorecards.
Understanding Subject-wise Cut-offs
One crucial component of the results is the release of subject-specific cut-off marks. For example, in Economics, candidates needed a score of 206 or higher for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and 180 for eligibility as an Assistant Professor. Similarly, in Political Science, the cut-offs were set at 234 for JRF and 210 for Assistant Professors. These cut-offs are carefully categorized, taking into account the reservation status of candidates to ensure fairness in this highly competitive exam.
It's important to note that PhD admissions are significantly influenced by scores from Category-2 and Category-3 papers. This system allows for a clear distinction in candidate selection, ensuring only the most qualified advance in their academic pursuits.

Eligibility and Statistical Overview
The UGC NET exam is not just a gateway for aspiring Assistant Professors; it also plays a pivotal role in determining eligibility for PhD admissions and securing Junior Research Fellowships. This year, out of the total 8,49,166 enrolled candidates, about 6,49,490 appeared for the test. From this pool, the scores reflect that 48,161 candidates cleared the bar for Assistant Professor and PhD roles, while 5,158 achieved eligibility for both JRF and Assistant Professor positions.
The NTA also made the final answer keys available to the public after a provisional phase, during which candidates could raise objections until February 3, 2025. This transparent process allowed for any errors or discrepancies in the initial answer key to be addressed, ensuring the integrity and fairness of the examination.
This comprehensive approach by the NTA ensures that the candidates are not only tested accurately but also informed transparently about their standings, paving the way for their future academic and professional endeavors.
