Jaipur Metro: Everything You Need to Know

If you're heading around Jaipur, the metro is the fastest way to dodge traffic and reach key spots. It’s cheap, clean, and runs like clockwork. Below you’ll find the routes, operating hours, ticket costs, and a few hacks to make your journey smoother.

How the Jaipur Metro Works

The system has two lines. The Pink Line runs from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar, covering the historic heart of the city. The newer Orange Line stretches from Sitapura to Sanjay Palace, linking the industrial belt with newer residential zones. Trains arrive every 5‑7 minutes during peak hours and every 10‑12 minutes off‑peak.

Operating hours start at 6:00 am and end at 11:00 pm on weekdays. On weekends the first train leaves at 7:00 am, and the last one at 10:30 pm. If you miss the last train, the night bus service runs along the same corridor for a short period.

Tickets are sold at vending machines and staffed counters. A single‑journey token costs ₹15 for the Pink Line and ₹20 for the Orange Line. You can also buy a reloadable Smart Card for ₹50, then load any amount you like. A day‑pass for unlimited rides is ₹80, which is handy if you’re sightseeing.

Tips for Riding the Jaipur Metro

1. Arrive a minute early. Platforms are short, so doors close quickly. Standing near the door lets you board faster.

2. Keep your Smart Card topped up. The machines accept cash and cards, but they can be temperamental during rush hour. Having a little balance saved avoids waiting.

3. Use the mobile app for live train timings. It shows exact arrival seconds, so you can plan a coffee break before the train pulls in.

4. Watch for the “Ladies‑Only” carriage on the Pink Line. It’s a good spot if you travel during busy times and want a quieter ride.

5. Exit through the side gates to avoid crowds. Most stations have two sets of exit doors; the side ones are less crowded and open directly onto sidewalks or bus stops.

When traveling with luggage, look for the larger doors at the end of each carriage. They stay open a few seconds longer, making it easier to pull bags on and off.

One more thing: the metro connects to the city’s main bus depot at Badi Chaupar. If you need to go further, hop off there and catch a city bus for cheap, last‑mile connectivity.

With these basics, you’re ready to ride Jaipur Metro like a local. It’s reliable, safe, and saves you tons of time compared to sitting in traffic. Enjoy the ride and explore the Pink City without the hassle!
