Mahindra SUVs: Long Waiting Periods Despite Production Adjustments in 2025

Ongoing Waiting Periods for Mahindra SUVs
It's 2025, and if you're a fan of Mahindra SUVs, chances are you're enduring significant waiting times. As of April, getting your hands on models like the Scorpio-N, Thar, and XUV700 involves months of patience. Despite Mahindra's efforts to rev up production, they're still struggling to keep up with the demand.
Let's dig into the specifics. If you're eyeing the Thar, be prepared for a long wait. The 2WD diesel variant might keep you waiting up to a whopping 17 months. But if you're flexible on the engine, the 2WD petrol version is a bit friendlier with just a month-long queue. The 4WD versions of the Thar, whether petrol or diesel, fortunately, have shorter waiting periods, hovering around a month.
Scorpio-N and XUV700 Delays
Now, onto the Scorpio-N, which is living up to its 'Scorpion' name, stinging the customers with delays. For the base Z4 trims, both petrol and diesel, the wait stretches up to 18 months. If you're looking at the lush top-spec Z8L variant, it's slightly better with around 9 months. However, mid-spec models won't be in your garage any quicker than 12 months.
The XUV700, a premium companion, offers a bit of relief. The apparent winner in this waiting game is the premium AX7L variant with a 13-month countdown. On the lower end, the entry-level MX and AX3 variants make the wait shorter at 7 months. Nonetheless, Mahindra has made strides, bringing the average wait time for XUV700 variants down to a mere month as of February 2025.
Although recent production tweaks have cut down wait times for specific models, Mahindra is actively working to streamline operations. Offering discounts up to ₹1 lakh on the XUV700 indicates their push to manage the customer's impatience and adjust their strategies to balance supply and demand.
To sweeten the deal and entice more buyers, the 2025 model year updates for Thar, Scorpio-N, and XUV700 roll out with fancy new features—think larger touchscreens, ADAS systems, and top-notch sound systems. These enhancements are expected to sway buyer preferences, but it's a challenge balancing these tech desires with lingering component shortages, like the semiconductor bottleneck.
All this goes to show that Mahindra is in a tug-of-war with demand and production constraints. While they've made strides, eagerly waiting customers highlight the ongoing challenges of scaling up in a competitive SUV market.
