Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Engages with PM Modi as Team Tackles City Development Mar, 7 2025

In a significant development for the capital, Delhi's newly appointed Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has taken a proactive step by meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This meeting, which took place on February 22, 2025, at Modi's residence, marked the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at revamping Delhi's infrastructure and public welfare systems. Coming on the heels of the BJP's landslide victory just weeks ago, Gupta is setting the stage for transformative changes under the prime minister's guidance.

During her conversation with Modi, Gupta underscored the BJP's vision for a modern, efficient, and thriving Delhi. The discussion focused intensely on the challenges and potential that lie ahead, such as chronic traffic congestion and the state of the roads, which have troubled residents for years. Following her meeting, Gupta did not waste any time, immediately convening with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) to address these pressing issues head-on. Her directive was clear: widespread and immediate improvement of Delhi's infrastructure.

On-the-Ground Actions by Delhi's Ministers

Gupta's dedication to reform is echoed by her ministers, who have been actively assessing the city's infrastructure. PWD Minister Parvesh Verma took to the streets, inspecting the critical Barapullah Phase-3 project. During his visit, he announced rigorous actions to eliminate illegal encroachments that have long hindered development. Emphasizing accountability, Verma instituted stringent measures ensuring contractors deliver durable and high-quality roadwork, reflective of a no-nonsense approach to governance.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Kapil Mishra conducted site evaluations across North East Delhi's roads. His hands-on approach highlighted the deplorable road conditions and underscored the need for urgent action. Mishra openly criticized past administrations for their lack of attention to infrastructure, pledging to rectify these oversights under the current government.

In line with these efforts, one of Gupta's first acts as chief minister was to approve the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This health initiative, coupled with her wider mission for a 'Viksit Delhi', represents the backbone of her administration's push for public welfare. With the BJP having secured 48 out of 70 assembly seats in the recent elections, her mandate is clear.

The party's return to power after 26 years brings a fresh opportunity to implement long-needed reforms. As Gupta and her team press forward, Delhi's residents can anticipate significant advances in infrastructure and public services, underpinned by a government committed to action and accountability.
